Overview
The ATTO 3 leaves the factory with a manual prop rod holding its front hood — a two-handed juggling act every time you top up the washer fluid or load the front trunk. This twin gas strut kit replaces the rod for good: lift the hood a few inches and the struts take over, raising it smoothly and holding it open while both of your hands stay free.
The kit is built for the ATTO 3's front compartment. Two gas-charged struts work as a matched pair, one on each side, so the hood rises evenly with no twist. The lower ends mount to the body on the supplied ball studs, the upper brackets bolt to the hood hinge points using the car's existing bolt positions, and the strut sockets snap onto the ball studs with a positive click. No hole is drilled anywhere — every fixing in the kit lands on a point the car already has.
Why ATTO 3 owners fit them
- Both hands free, every time — loading the front trunk, topping up washer fluid, reaching the 12V battery or wiping down the compartment stops being a one-handed exercise with a prop rod digging into your wrist.
- The hood lifts itself — crack the latch, raise the leading edge a short way, and gas pressure does the rest of the lift in one smooth, damped motion. Closing is just as controlled: pull the hood down against gentle resistance and latch it.
- A pair, balanced by design — struts on both sides share the hood's weight, so it opens straight and sits level at full height instead of leaning on a single rod at one corner.
- Bolt-on in the truest sense — the kit's brackets and ball studs use the ATTO 3's existing mounting points. The car is not drilled, cut or welded, and the whole kit unbolts again just as cleanly.
- It finishes the front trunk — the ATTO 3's under-hood storage is a genuinely useful space; struts turn it from an occasional novelty into an everyday compartment you will actually use for charging cables and shopping.
What's in the kit
- 2 × gas struts — matched left/right pair in black, with ball-socket ends that snap onto the studs
- 2 × hood brackets — black steel, each with its ball stud fitted, bolting to the hood hinge points
- 2 × threaded ball studs with nuts and washers — the body-side mounts, as shown laid out in the kit photos
- Every piece of hardware needed is in the box; the only tools are the spanners/sockets you already own
Exact fitment
Fitment Guide- Vehicle: BYD ATTO 3 (Yuan PLUS)
- Model years: 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026
- Position: front hood (bonnet), one strut per side
- Replaces: the factory manual prop rod, which can be left in place unused or removed
- Steering layout: fits LHD and RHD cars — the front compartment hardware is common to both
Fitting the kit
- Open the hood and set the factory prop rod. Work one side at a time so the hood is always supported.
- Bolt the supplied bracket to the hood hinge point on that side, reusing the hinge bolt position as shown in the fitted photos.
- Fit the threaded ball stud to the body-side mounting point on the inner wing, with its washer and nut, and tighten it home.
- Press the strut's sockets onto the two ball studs until each clicks — cylinder toward the hood bracket, rod end toward the body, exactly as pictured.
- Repeat on the other side, then lift the prop rod away and lower the hood slowly for the first close to watch both struts track straight. After that, open and close it a few times — the action is smooth from the first cycle.

Frequently asked questions
Does the kit really need no drilling?
Correct — look at the hardware photos: brackets, threaded ball studs, nuts and washers, all designed around fixing points the ATTO 3 already has at the hood hinges and inner wings. Fitting is spanner work only.
Is one strut enough? Why a pair?
The kit is a matched pair on purpose. Two struts share the load symmetrically, so the hood rises level, stays level, and closes without twisting on its hinges — a single strut loads one corner and twists the panel every time it moves.
How does opening change day to day?
Release the latch as normal and lift the front edge a few inches; the struts then carry the hood up to full height and hold it there. To close, pull the hood down with steady pressure and press it into the latch — no rod to unhook, stow or forget.
Will the hood still close flush and latch properly?
Yes. The struts mount clear of the hood's closing path and compress as the hood comes down; panel gaps and latch engagement are unchanged, as the fitted photos show with the hood shut lines untouched.
What happens in cold weather?
Gas struts work a little more gently in deep cold — the lift feels slower and asks for slightly more help on the first lift of a frosty morning, then behaves normally. In everyday temperatures the action is exactly as described.
Can I go back to the prop rod?
Any time. The struts pop off their ball studs and the brackets unbolt from the original points, returning the front compartment to factory condition with no marks left behind.
What do I use the freed-up access for?
Everything that lives under the ATTO 3's hood: the front storage compartment, the washer fluid filler, the 12V battery and the brake fluid reservoir all become two-handed jobs instead of a balancing act.
