Overview

Many BYD trims leave the factory without a dash cam — so after a near miss or a car park scrape, there is nothing to show for it. This OEM-style module closes that gap with the camera your car was designed to take: it plugs into the factory connector behind the rearview mirror, hides inside the factory housing, and plays back on your car's own screen.

No suction cup on the windscreen. No cable dangling down to the 12V socket. No second screen stuck to the dashboard. The module sits exactly where the factory camera sits, uses the wiring your car already has behind the mirror, and records through the car's own Driving Recorder interface — the footage lives on your car, not on a stranger's app.

Why BYD owners fit it

  • Factory look, zero clutter — the module mounts inside the existing mirror-area housing, so from the driver's seat nothing changes. No bracket, no wire run, no extra gadget on the glass.
  • Plug-and-play on cars with the factory connector — if your car has the blue dash-cam connector and pre-installed cable beside the interior mirror, installation is a 15–30 minute job with a plastic trim tool: pop the housing cover, plug in, seat the module, refit the trim.
  • Footage on the car's own screen — recordings are viewed, managed and played back through the Driving Recorder app on the infotainment display. No phone app, no Wi-Fi pairing, no subscription.
  • Full HD evidence — 1920 × 1080 front recording with loop recording, so older clips are overwritten automatically and the card never fills up mid-drive.
  • Built for the car, not adapted to it — metal module body with the factory-style mounting pins and blue connector, shaped to the mirror housing of the models listed below.

Design details

  • Front camera module — a single forward-facing camera for the vehicle's Driving Recorder system. It is a camera module for the factory DVR, not a standalone recorder, reversing camera or 360-degree upgrade.
  • Factory blue connector — plugs straight into the pre-installed camera cable beside the interior rearview mirror. The blue plug and latch are shown in the photos.
  • Metal housing — die-cast style module body with the factory mounting pins, finished in silver or black to match the trim around your mirror.
  • No audio recording — the factory camera records video only, by design, which keeps it on the right side of in-car recording rules in most markets.
  • Loop recording — continuous recording that overwrites the oldest files first, so the camera keeps working without you ever formatting the card to free space.

Exact fitment

Fitment Guide

This module fits BYD vehicles that have the factory blue dash-cam connector and pre-installed camera cable beside the interior rearview mirror. The quick tell-tale is the blank cover panel above the interior mirror — that panel hides the connector this module plugs into. Fitment by model and year:

  • BYD ATTO 3 / YUAN PLUS — 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026
  • BYD HAN — 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026
  • BYD TANG — 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026
  • BYD DOLPHIN — 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026
  • BYD SEAL — 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026
  • BYD SEAL U / SEALION 6 / SONG PLUS — 2024, 2025 and 2026
  • BYD SEALION 7 — 2024, 2025 and 2026 (on current software, SEALION 7 saves recordings to a USB flash drive instead of a microSD card)
  • BYD ATTO 2 / YUAN UP — 2025 and 2026
  • Position: inside the factory camera housing above the interior rearview mirror
  • Quantity: 1 camera module — one module covers the front view
  • Color: Silver or Black housing — photos show the silver module; the black module is identical except for the housing color

Some vehicles — including certain newer builds — ship without the pre-installed camera cable. If your car has no blue connector behind the mirror cover, this camera-only module is not a direct plug-in fit: a compatible retrofit harness is needed first, and that harness is not included here.

Fitting it

  1. With the car powered down, use a plastic trim tool to release the cover above the interior rearview mirror and expose the factory camera housing.
  2. Look for the blue dash-cam connector and pre-installed cable. If the connector is there, this module plugs straight in — align the plug, engage the latch, and seat the module on its mounting pins.
  3. Refit the housing cover, taking care not to trap the cable.
  4. Power the car on and open Driving Recorder on the infotainment screen. If the camera is not recognised at first, run the car's own infotainment restart procedure and check again.
  5. Insert a compatible microSD card into the vehicle's recording-card slot (see Specifications), format it through the Driving Recorder interface if asked, and enable recording.
  6. Record a short test clip while parked, then play it back on the screen. A live preview alone does not prove recording works — the saved clip is the check that matters.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know it fits my car?
Pop the blank cover panel above the interior rearview mirror. If you find the blue dash-cam connector and pre-installed cable there, this module plugs straight in. The model and year list above covers the cars this module is made for — the connector check is the final word, because wiring varies by market and build.

Do I need to buy a cable as well?
Most cars in the list already have the cable waiting behind the mirror cover, and then nothing else is needed. If your car has no pre-installed cable, a compatible retrofit harness is required first — that harness is sold separately and is not part of this listing.

Is a memory card included?
No. Recording needs a compatible microSD card in the vehicle's own card slot — up to 128GB, Class 10 or above, FAT32. On SEALION 7 with current software, recordings save to a USB flash drive instead. Check your owner's manual for your model's slot location and card specification.

Can I watch the footage on the car screen?
Yes. Once the module is recognised, the Driving Recorder app on the infotainment display shows the live view, settings and saved clips. No phone app is involved.

Does it record sound?
No. The factory camera records video only, by design.

Does it record while parked?
Recording starts when the car is started. Continuous recording with the car switched off is not part of this module's function, and no parking-surveillance power kit is included.

The camera is fitted but Driving Recorder is not showing. What now?
Run the car's own infotainment restart procedure, then check Driving Recorder again. If it still does not appear, have the connector, hardware and recorder software checked — a missing cable or a software variant that does not support the recorder is the usual cause.
